Bilaspur University (Vishwavidyalaya) is State University which has been established by the Gazette noticiaction on 03.02.2012 of Chhattisgarh Act No 07, 2012, The Chhattisgarh Viswavidyala ( Amendament) Act, 2011 and came in to its existance in June, 2012.

The jurisdiction of Bilaspur Unviversity is extended to 05 districts namely:- revenue districts of Bilaspur, Mungeli, Korba, Jangir Champa and Raigarh.

The University is situated on the bank of Arpa river in temporary hospital building in a village Sendari spread into 62 acres of land. It has proposed for about 300 acres of land in Koni village in the Educational hub, about 10 km. from Bilaspur city. There are nearly 117 Govt. and private colleges affiliated in the 05 districts of Chhattisgarh State which together constitute the juridiction of Bilaspur University. The colleges carry out undergraduate and postgraduate studies in different streams of Science, Arts, Commerce, Law and Education and Centres of research.

The University plans to develop strategy for enhancing the range of pedagogic approaches and the use of technology. As a part of this approach, the University plans to start classrooms into state of the art ones, enebling teachers to teach using wide variety of media.

The University in its relentless efforts in the pursuit of academic excellence aspires to make strides in providing better academic ambience and improved infra-structural facilities from a very humble beginning.

In its affiliated autonomous colleges, semester system of pedagogy is followed while at undergraduate level annual system is in place. However, University plans to introduce Choice-Based Credit System. (C.B.C.S.) from July, 2013-14 academic session (in its Campus) for its Integrated and post graduate programmes. Bilaspur University shall maintain close interaction with neighbouring Universities / Institutes fully realising its responsibility and obligations towards the society at large. The outreach programmes and trans-disciplinary researches shall be initiated to establish linkages with Industries, Research Institute and Universities through Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs). Bilaspur University believes that Quality of education is a continuous process,it needs constant nurturing in its higher educational Institutes through an active involvement of all the constituent units.

• Recognition of Bilaspur University under 2F by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.


• To obtain the membership of Association of Indian Universities to provide an opportunity to affiliating colleges to participants in sports and cultural activities.


• Conductance of Examination, From July-September, 2012 of Private candidates of UG, PG in Arts and Commerce streams with the help of Guru Ghasidas University as per the MOU.


• Implementation of Academic Calendar in Affiliated Colleges as per the decision of coordination committee.


• Visit to Affiliated Colleges in different districts to assess the Infrastructure, Library, Faculty positions and Laboratory facilities.


• Organization of meeting with Principals of affiliating colleges and later on district wise meeting with Principals to discuss the problems and measures to be taken for the improvement of quality of Education.


• Conductance of brain storming workshop on Higher Education to prepare the road map for starting of Academic departments (copy is enclosed) in Bilaspur University.


• Identification of 5 departments to start from 2013 Academic Session. (copy is enclosed).


• Advertisement of Faculty positions of five approved Academic departments and other non-teaching posts ( Microbiology and Bio-Informatics, Computer Science, Food Processing and Technology, Hotel Management and hospitality, Commerce and Financial Studies.)


• Filling up of the non-teaching posts on deputation from Guru Ghasidas University in Academic, Establishment, Finance and Examination sections.


• Preparation of proposals for conductance of workshop on Quality Assessment sustenance and Enhancement in Higher Education for Colleges.


• Conductance of State level and National level Inter University Sports and other Cultural activities.


• To Participate in Research and Academic activities in other Institutes.


• To Depute the sports teams of the University in various sports competitions organized by other Universities in the country.


• Establishment of University office and development of basic administrative activities in temporary occupied building.


• Establishment of National service scheme and start Social services.


• Organization of one week State level National Service Scheme Camp of students from various colleges and universities of the State. And to carry out camp activities b NSS Units in nearby villages for one week as sharamdan.


• Motivation program for colleges to introduce skill development courses under CM/PM Skill Development Schemes.


• Organization of Inter-University-men and women Boxing Championship.


• Establishment of various schools departments, preparation of their syllabi and prospectus for the Academic sessions of 2013-14. Introduction of semester system, Choice Based Credit System and continuous Assessment in P.G. courses to be started in University.


• Preparation of Proposal for the establishment of E-Classrooms and use of ICT in teaching programmes and E-Governance.


• Initiatives for the Academic collaboration with other Universities, Research Institutes and Industries.


• Launching of University website and connecting the affiliating colleges to the website of Bilaspur University.
